The Rev. Emory Berry, Jr. is described by many as innovative, daring, astute, compassionate, humble and inspiring. However, Rev. Berry describes himself as “a child of God seeking to do the Lord’s will, the Lord’s way”. Rev. Berry has dedicated his ministry to being an example of what God can do in the lives of those who trust in God’s providential purpose and plan for their life. Furthermore, Rev. Berry uses the model and mission of Jesus Christ in a contemporary and cutting edge fashion to fortify and enrich the holistic lives of believers and to bring souls to Christ.
Rev. Berry was born and reared in Miami and Miramar, Florida. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He is a graduate of Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Rev. Berry also graduated from Harvard University’s Summer Leadership Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Auburn Theological Seminary’s Urban Leadership Institute in New York, New York.
In addition, he is a distinguished graduate of the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative in Miami, Florida. Currently, Rev. Berry is completing his Doctorate of Ministry degree at Virginia Union University’s Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology.
Rev. Berry is the past Director of Christian Education at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida. He has also served as the Youth & Young Adult Pastor at First Saint Paul AME Church in Lithonia, Georgia. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors for the Baptist General Convention of Virginia which represents over 1000 churches in Virginia. In addition, he is the Chairman of the Board for the Virginia Alliance Against Mass Incarceration.
In March 2010, Pastor Berry was called to be the 8th pastor of esteemed Fourth Baptist Church in Richmond Virginia. Under his leadership, the church has grown numerically, spiritually, and programmatically. There are now over 40 ministries to serve the needs of God’s people in the church and community. He has been recognized as one of the “Top 40 under 40” pastors for 2012 by Inspire Magazine. In addition, he was selected as “Pastor of the Year” recipient for 2012 by the Ushers Union of Richmond.
Pastor Berry is the proud husband of the former Julie A. Parker, and they have been blessed with two adorable children, Emory Berry, III and Jaiden Aniya Berry.
